IMPORTANT UPDATE (as of March 30, 2023):

Dear friends & neighbors,

Thank you for the enormous support in our fight to protect and preserve Bigelow woods.

We were notified by our ward 8 councilor that the Bigelow House Trustees and their developer decided NOT to move forward with their proposal.

The land should remain as is and will not be developed. The trees and animals can continue to thrive in this beautiful habitat.

During the summer of 2022, the trustees of the Dr. Henry Jacob Bigelow House, a Historic Property in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Newton, MA, proposed a new condominium development on their land abutting single family residences.

We, the neighbors located on Ober Rd, Country Club Rd, Cottonwood Rd, Lovett Rd and Sky View Cir firmly oppose their plan to destroy the woods.

We ask the Newton Historic commission and our local city representatives to protect this open space and uphold a conservation restriction prohibiting land development.

Wild Life

The Bigelow woods area in Oak Hill is home to many animals; deer, fox, wild turkeys, hawks, opossum, racoons, coyotes are just a few of the animal species that live in these wooded area.

Water Run Off

Hundreds of old trees planted on clay soil are currently preventing water runoff and flooding down the hill. Removing the trees and the natural barriers will cause a significant flood risk for many homes on Cottonwood Rd.& Hartman Rd.

Community

Erecting condominiums will add noise, traffic, light pollution to our quiet neighborhood. Our single family homes value and privacy will be significantly comprised.

Environment

This wooded area is one of the last remaining open spaces in Newton and has been protected for 200 years. Help protect it from GREED-fueled development.
